I will not be distracted by bloggers: Jabu
By Churchill EdwardKUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang said he will not fall prey to bloggers who are trying to keep him away from his constituents.
Jabu, who holds the portfolios of Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communications, said bloggers’ criticism of him would not prevent him from maintaining his personal touch with the grassroots.
When I first read this article, I thought Jabu was referring to another blog. It is not common for the media to mention a website domain name (sometimes, when there’s a press conference on website launch, we will not be given the URL in the printed paper).
Before, you guys screw me, let me get it straight – this is my personal view and I am not siding anyone.
What I see in Jabu
As a member of a Dayak association, Jabu have not failed in helping us (the association) with the educational awards and seminars that we have organise. Yes, we need to justify for the grant, but at the end of the day, it is the Iban students who benefited from it. Though the amount is small, but it is indeed seen as a reward for excellency in education. I hope Jabu will continue to give us that grant this year, as he wish to see us organise a bigger seminar in the future.
Salcra baru!
As far as I am concern, and while I travelled to the Paku, Saratok, Lubok Antu, Serian where SALCRA have their plantation, I did ask around if the people (the participants) are not happy with SALCRA. Non said they are not happy! This is in contrast with claims by various NGOs.
While in Saratok, I did ask the people at Rh. Kumpai, if SALCRA have benefited them in term of employment and other things – they answered yes, we who have little education will work with SALCRA, while we use that money to finance our brothers and sisters to gain higher education. Again this the opposite of what is being claimed.
What I see in Dayakbaru.com
The ideas are good. The young generation can accept it. But how are they going to implement/deliver it?
- Work with Jabu who is in the government and with all the resources. Sayau ke pemandai bisi tang nadai vehicle to deliver it to the people.
- You need the government vehicle to make it work. The Dayak cannot wait for a new government to be form to make that happen. Start now! If you win the next State Election, then it is a bonus. If you don’t, will it be deserted?
Plead by the common Dayaks
Can you guys work together and set aside your political differences and implement what is the best for the Dayak community. For a start, Mercy Malaysia is trying to acquire a building in Piasau Garden and transform it to a temporary shelter for the rural poor Dayaks who comes to Miri for medical treatment and other matters.
The contribution may be small, but it means so much to the person who received it.
As long as you guys brings politics into community services, there will be no community services. Look at the newly given Dayak cemetery in Miri.. siko pan nadai meh kita respond when we seek your assistance to develop it – land clearing etc etc.. Where are the other Dayak associations in Miri?
Go to the ground and just do it..

after doing some simple math,
rm52 mil dividen by SALCRA last year translate into merely rm270 per month.
where as u can earn more if u develop it urselt (the land n the commodities).
jabu nvr gv comment nor support when another longhouse lost their NCR land..
divide n rule sys effectively kills off any effort to unite dayaks.

That is about RM3,240 per year. If we ask the SALCRA participant, they never complaint. When there is no complaint from the paticipants, then everything is alright (in the eyes of the government).
Yes, they can earn more if they develop it themselves. But, how many can afford it. I take my example – land clearing costs me RM7k for a land size to plant 300 seedlings. The seedlings cost me RM3,600.
The people have less choice, so its up to them to choose their option. Ukai enggai kaban.. tang enda mampu. Bedau ngira baja, racun, logistics, manpower, etc.

Abdul, I think the number of those type of workers are not big. And, I believe PORIM or MARDI have their own Employment contract to refer to if there is a need to terminate workers who are not performing to the company’s standard.
On the other hand, PORIM or MARDI, should seek assistance from the village head to organise REGULAR meetings with the villagers so that they (the villagers) understands more of their activities, and at the same time create a more harmonious working environment.
Have PORIM/MARDI do that? Have they organise regular meet the local sessions to explain policies, etc.? Probably I have missed reading it on paper.
The Indonesian workers may be worst.. pay levy, work permit, etc.. work 1 day, disappear into thin air the next day!
Cost have been incurred and based on my experience, I would categorise these workers as the Indonesian Chipsmore – Kejap Ada Kejap Takda, pak!

UK – congratulation on your new blog. This blog must have been a big step forward for you – to state your own opinion which must be respected.
Ideas and suggestion are aplenty – we are common Dayak living among common people. We also speak the truth of people hardship. We also put our own money, effort and project to help common people. Do not generalize that a person who write is not doing anything for the Dayak.
Our choice of platform maybe different. UK – it is not only policy differences that we see, but we observed and experience different implementation treatment.
Our politic is not about looking for business opportunity with the current government. We want to explain to the people what is right and what is not good for Dayak in the long run. We have our own values and political meaning.
We are friends to all – we talk on issues that we deemed important to our community. We maintain good relationship with the government – which is not made up of only one or two man.
In governance of government – an opposite view is not opposition. It allow for better understanding of an issue and due care will be taken so as not to fall into the wrong trap.
It is very well to say – blogging has brought us many friends, new knowledge, and most of all a new way of thinking. Keep your thinking clear of “corruption” then you can speak well on any topic.

Yes, the leaders are getting to get the message and they too needs to start writing their development report for us to read.
To my brothers and sisters in the longhouse, we just want to see it is being done. We have heard of so many policies – short term and long terms, Malaysian Plans, bla bla … now SCORE. Who ever the government is, what ever the platform is – it is still ME, myself and I who will decide whether I am capable to join the rest of the community.
Sapa enggai, tang kada ke ulih?
To me, politics is about running a business. Its all about maintaining a rich State or nation. If it is not run like a business, then we would not have enough money to do just anything.
It is good to talk and discuss and with the good rapport with the government, I am sure Jabu would not react as such (referring to my post above). Looks like some miscommunication somewhere, then.
I would love to see you guys working hand in hand with the government (who ever they are).. It just don’t work being alone.
No corruption no worries.. I just write about my thoughts.

Sir James, congrats for dwelling into the discussion and the world of rhetorics. It is quite enlightening as it brings a personal touch of UK’s mind on certain issues – without fear or favor. That brings UK to another level of blogging. It tends to happen to us after we reach the 40 years mark. Look at Obama & Kennedy. UK – you did not realize that you are changing your own rules ( your own believed in something). In Perak – you are the frog. That is bad – selling yourself outfor the sake of your struggle and believed. You should have the spine to stand up to your own opinion. Look at your rumahdayak in disarray.

Iban must be united.In spite of a big majority we are economically weak and therefore it is important for us to have a good political stand and a good relationship with the government
So far , too long we have spent too much time and energies on fighting it out in politic and this is truly cause our community and bringing too much useless differences, unnecessary misunderstanding and unacceptable division. If this trend kept on continuing we will lose and stand to suffer and our future uchu ichit will blame us.
We will better served if we work closely with other communities within the present government, and not to blindly believe in what ever propagandas that are given to confuses us.

SYDNEY, Jan 30 — Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud drives a cream Rolls-Royce, wears a gem the size of a walnut on his ring finger and is said to have once paid US$2 million (RM7 million) for a piano owned by Liberace.
The Chief Minister of Sarawak, like the late American entertainer, is certainly flamboyant and he’s been well rewarded for his 28-year rule of the resource-rich province. But his time at the top is coming to an end.
Having celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary last week, the man known as the “White Haired Raja” has begun talking about succession. The likely departure of the 72-year-old is sure to shake up local politics in Sarawak, but it could also have a profound impact at the national level.
The theory is that if Taib were to step down, fresh elections could be required in the state, as any successor would lack the influence to hold the local legislature together. This is an opportunity for national Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his three-party coalition, which has been working hard for some time to woo voters outside Peninsular Malaysia.
If Anwar’s PKR and its allies were to control the Sarawak state assembly, analysts believe it would be only a matter of time before MPs from Sarawak tapped the public mood and crossed the floor in Kuala Lumpur. This would hand the government to Anwar and bring about the biggest political change in Malaysia since independence in 1957.
Such a scenario is some way off, but it’s the one confronting prime minister-in-waiting Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
That’s why his government pulled out all stops to win a by-election in the state of Terengganu on Jan 17. It failed, handing another seat to the opposition, but the contest in the country’s north-east is a case study of what to expect when the battle for Sarawak begins.
Even by Malaysia’s lofty standards of political patronage, the Kuala Terengganu by-election was expensive. Najib and his ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, desperate to arrest its electoral fortunes, tried to spend its way to victory. The numbers are both appalling and beguiling.
All told, Najib, who is expected to take over from Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in March, handed out A$4.4 billion (RM10.5 billion) to voters. That works out at nearly A$55,000 for each voter in the seaside electorate. The big-ticket items were the establishment of a A$4.2 billion trust to manage the state’s oil revenue and the well-timed handover of A$169 million in petroleum royalties.
But this was not the headline act. In a ceremony the local press described as “controversial”, Najib Razak handed out A$25 million in government contracts to 600 local firms at a party rally. Even more cynically, the government gave A$21 million to Chinese schools in the district, just as it looked like the parents of these students would determine the election.
In the end, they didn’t and the government lost because Malay voters deserted it, while the ever-cautious Chinese either sat out the election or voted for the opposition. And while a 2.5 per cent swing against the government is hardly a landslide, the by-election loss would be very worrying for Najib given the amount of money thrown at the problem.
“The government’s traditional strategy of just buying votes failed,” said political analyst Wong Chin Huat, who lecturers at Monash University’s campus in Kuala Lumpur. “The win by the opposition showed the mood for change still exists in Malaysia.”
This mood for change is also breaking down traditional rivalries in a country long divided by race and religion. The opposition coalition won in Terengganu despite fielding a candidate from the deeply conservative Pas. Not only did Pas gain more secular Malay voters, thanks to a moderating of its language, but it also did not scare off the Chinese.
This was despite Najib and the government doing their best to stoke racial and religious tension.
The victory is also a direct result of Anwar being able to hold together a coalition containing Pas, the Chinese moderates of the DAP and his own multiracial PKR. It is, to say the least, a diverse coalition, united in many ways only by its hatred of a government that has ruled Malaysia since independence.
Finding common ground will be the challenge if the opposition ever comes to power, but for now it’s still focused on how to get there. Sarawak holds the key, and while patronage failed the government in Terengganu, it has long held sway in Borneo. — Australian Financial Review

duhh,
1. No I am not apple polishing anyone. That was my thoughts and how I see the issue.
2. I need to understand why people said that Jabu have not done anything to the Dayak. He holds so many portfolio in the government. He is being made the DCM. If I have not open my eyes wide big, then I apologise.
3. No, I do not have any business relationship with any of Jabu’s family.
4. Do I sound like aku ngemeli ke bansa Dayak just because I express what I think in this blog?
Anyway, to me.. it is still myself to be blame if I cannot participate in any of the government development plan or (if its pleases the opposition) in their ‘development plan’..
5. The Dayak are hard to please and ‘make happy’ but they keep on living with what they thinks make them happy.
Datai maia ngundi, since I am a registered voter, I will cast my one single vote to choose whom I favour.
Janji aku nadai beruntang ba sapa-sapa..

Ba penemu aku, bala kita ka bisi pemandai nya meh ti patut ngangkat ka bansa kitai iban. kaban aku jabu nya enda ulih dikarap ka kitai agi, laban peluang ka udah diberi rakyat ngagai iya dikena ia ngemansang ka diri empu aja. Aku bisi ga macha pasal salcra arinya, tak nyemetak amat leka jaku kaban aku jabu nya baka ka ngetan ka periuk asi diri empu. The mechanism to deal with “Satok” Rumah Dayak is not important in this short feedback, but the bottom line is we have to stop is “unfortunate saga” by all mean in at the earliest possible time – including taking legal actions and outright sales of property.

1. my rules is my prerogative – one vote, one candidate at one constituency.
2. I am not in Perak (but in Sarawak) and I am not a politician (although I am a member of a political party) because I hold no position (even if I hold a post, it will only be term as party-worker, or whatsoever term we wish to use). I am only a voter who writes what I think I wants to write about. After all the sequences of political events in Malaysia, I am getting sick and tired. A lot of others who do not blog are sick and tired like I do. And, I will write less on my view of the political situation in Malaysia and Sarawak – why would I love to write about sick matters! LOL
3. My struggle? I do not have any political struggle (if you are referring to politics). But, my favourite thing to do is to help my community in whatever mean I can. I mixed with a lot of races while doing community services. I can work with any charitable organisation. And, I have no problem with them. We all keep aside our views on Malaysian politics and help the people who needs our help. Maybe you term it as selling (that is your opinion) but unfortunately I do not have that word in my dictionary. No one pays me to go to help the flood victims recently.
4. My opinion is my opinion as you read it. My opinion is to see unity regardless of all the political differences and views. As long as the politicians input politics into unity and trying to unite people in politics, I think it will be a slow process. The leaders have been trying to unite the Dayaks (in their own ways) and the Chinese keep on saying, “see you Dayaks.. are so un united”.
5. RumahDayak in disarray? I believe the members who have participated in the small community service that we organised are more than happy that they are able to contribute. We give allowances for free topics and free foruming. And, we are planning for more of this with the assistance of our members. Please join us in our events and activities regardless of your political stand and views. We invite everyone.
6. Apple polishing BN? How I wish I had that opportunity to do business with the BN. If any of you BN members who wish to use my service, please let me know. Business is business, BN is BN. And, today the government is BN and business is driven by BN government, what are our options? Badu makai nganti perintah ke bertukar alu meri kitai asi? Badu bumai nganti perintah bertukar alu meri pala tanah?
Who ever the government of tomorrow, the business is still there. It would not stop. We have been servicing both customers who are in Pakatan Rakyat, and the government. Anything wrong with that? Supply and demand is not politics unfortunately.
7. This is a blogger’s opinion and hence, it is subject to agreement and disagreement. In Dayakbaru’s case, it was a little on the disagree side. But that is OK, I take that as an open discussion. I do not expect anyone to agree and disagree.
8. Change my tune? Hmmm.. asai asai ke agi baka suba. If maia ngundi, I know who I want to vote for – today, tomorrow and yesterday – the vote is still unchanged.
9. My service – anyone who requires it are open to meet or email me. As long it is for the benefit of everyone, especially the Iban and Dayak community in general, enda milih parti, bansa tauka agama.. sigi di tulung magang.
Dayakbaru, in the hearts of all Dayak, all of us have the same vision, mission and things that we want to achieve. Sapa enggai ke utai ke udah di tulis kita ba blog dayakbaru.com? But, maybe our ways and path to achieve that is different, but, I believe, you, me, the Dayaks in BN, the Dayaks who support PR, all wants the best of the Dayak community.
It is because of politics that we cannot walk together along one single path to that dream – my dream – to have a happy family.

Enda nemu meh aya, Apai Bangkam.. tang ba asai ati ku din, sigi enda nemu utai ke apple polishing meh tu. Maybe that is the reason why I do not have any business or project with the BN government. No doubt I envied those ke udah bulih project perintah. Anyway, I thank you for your views and it is part of my learning process of how people perceive me and for me to differentiate it in my mind. Wat, thank you for your encouraging comment. Which party we support is entirely up to the individual.
However, the future of our uchu ichit is for us to plan and it is not on the hands of any political parties.
As for other issues that you have mentioned, I have no comment laban aku empu pan agi trying to get into the picture and its administrative work flow and the law/by-laws governing it as well as the financial management aspect of it in the context of running a State.
To me, how to make the State as richest as possible should be the top priority because a poor State will invite more problems that what we see today.
