It has been a while since the visit of the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas to Miri, and that was the last time we saw some work done on the sinking portion of this road leading to Miri city. I am not sure which government agency is responsible for the maintenance of our roads in the city, but who ever it is, they sure need to justify for the delivery record accord to them.

Over the weekend, we (again) saw some machineries parked at the sinking stretch and a more serious approach are being done here.

miri-road.jpg

The contractor have started to dig deeper into the sinking part. However, this is still far from the solution on road maintenance or construction that we saw over at National Geography or the Discovery Channel. It would be pleasant to see some piling work to strengthen the soil structure here.

My expectation from this contractor (this time) would be – they will dig deeper – about 1-2 meters deep, pour more stones and gravel, and finally resurface it again.

Give it until Christmas and the next year’s budget to be release, we will see more maintenance work here. Its a gold mine to the contractors (anyway).

What I don’t understand is, why the difficulty of Miri City Council or the Transport Ministry to get assistance from the Geology Dept., or Sarawak Shell Berhad or Petronas Carigali to get soil sample and get the correct solution to that sinking road problem.

What is the effect of the little seismic vibration caused by the vehicles over that portion of the road. Or is it caused by the movement of the earth layer beneath.

We need answers and practical solution! (Nevermind, the increasing number of accident that occurred at that spot).

I haven’t got a clue about this blacklisting service, but it sure caused a lot of inconveniences to corporate email holders. For the last week, I received a lot of calls telling me that my email recipient did not receive my email (which I have sent a few days earlier).

Then I traced back some of the Sent Mails and a few email with the subject “Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender” and read it. Ahhh.. here is the problem!

The wait for the Champions Youth Cup tournament have come to an end yesterday when Malaysia open their campaign again Bayern Munich at the Sarawak State Stadium in Kuching. The match was telecast live over Astro – Malaysia’s satellite TV operator, on Channel 80 (Astro SuperSports).

Although Malaysia lost 1-2 to Bayern, after an average performance by the local boys; it is the condition and state of the pitch that caught almost all Malaysian who have watch that match on TV.

I received numerous SMS from fans expressing their disappointment on the condition of the pitch. With the on-going crisis clouding over the Sarawak FA, the stadium board is also (probably by today) going to be under fire by the poor maintenance of the stadium ground.

Sarawak have other stadium with better pitch to host the remaining matches and if Miri have the chance to host one match, I am sure, we will have a full house!

And, the it is interesting to see a ‘dusty’ goal scored too. The hot weather may have made its impact on the pitch. But, I thought we have some water system that could maintain the water content of the pitch.

What do you guys think? I would expect a silence Stadium Board over this matter.

The photo below was taken from a fellow blogger (cdason) who watch all the matches at the State Stadium.

The roller was no where to be seen during the live telecast :D

I have just received a copy of this book from a friend this afternoon. The price is RM25.00 per piece. Anyone of you who would like to have a copy can contact me at blog@uchukeling.com

Finally, the event was successfully executed last night. It ended at 12.15 midnight and covered the launching of the Iban Business Directory, the Weaving Class and the Ngiling Tikai (which means the end of the Gawai Festival) and the berancau tikai – literally means the start of work for the new year. Here are some photos from last night event.

My first public backdrop. Printed at the cost of RM768.00 for 32′ x 12′ at Asia Advertising.

The arrival of the Guest of Honour, YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Alfred Jabu Anak Numpang who is also our Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak accompanied by his wife, YB Senator Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.

Our Women Section Chairlady, Mdm. Julia Jugak and Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.

One of the recipient of our annual Outstanding Student Award.

Datuk Patinggi Jabu launching the Iban Business Directory, witnessed by from left, Alexander Isut, Dr. Nuing Jeluing, Jonathan Bedindang (hidden), YB Francis Harden, YB Lihan, and Sarawak Shell Berhad Managing Director.

Launching of the Women Weaving Class by Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.

It will not be complete without the Ajat Emas (Golden Dance) performed by Datuk Patinggi Jabu.

The Closing of Gawai toast, and marking the start of a new year with lot of work to be done, particularly in the field of education. I managed to whisper to Dato Sri Empiang of what we can contribute to curb to problems faced by the young Iban students who failed to master the basic skill of reading and writing as published in the media recently. She advised us to check with the schools and Education Dept. to obtain the breakdown of the “alarming” statistics.

Finally, the Ngiling Tikai symbolic event to mark the end of the Gawai celebration. Aram meh kitai berancau ke tikai dalam semua pengawa ke deka diatur kitai ke taun baru tu.

Thank you to all at Table No.28 (bala raban RumahDayak.com who managed to come and join us) and to Clement Bangau, IEG, LovelyHeart at Table N0.1

Cheers..
