Reading today’s Borneo Post – Rumours to stir emotions and confuse people — PBB man, referring to the last paragraph:

Meanwhile, he hoped that the crisis in both SPDP and SUPP would be resolved before the election.

JAMESJG.COM would like to clarify with members of the press on the current perception of my friends in other BN component parties, that SPDP has not come out of its internal crisis is both inaccurate and confusing.

This is because as far as our party (SPDP) is concerned, the party has carried out what it should have done.

The party is now moving forward and getting new membership applications throughout the state.

The party is also at the midst of announcing our candidate for Mas Gading soon for Barisan Nasional consideration.

SPDP is now on 5th gear with our preparation for the coming parliamentary election. Various activities has been and are being planned. Our candidates are actively meeting the people in the rural parliamentary seats of Baram, Bintulu and Saratok.

And, with the four vacancies at SPDP seats of DUN Marudi, DUN Bekenu, DUN Batu Danau and DUN Tasik Biru, it gives hope to our young members to fill come the next Sarawak State Election.

Echoing my friend, Cr. Sardon Zainal’s view on Sibuti candidacy, SPDP, particularly SPDP Lambir Division and SPDP Piasau Division, fully support the call for YB Tuan Hj. Ahmad Lai to be renominated as BN-PBB candidate for the parliamentary seat of Sibuti.

YB Tuan Hj. Ahmad Lai is definitely the winnable candidate for Sibuti!

KUCHING: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president Tan Sri William Mawan said the party will announce its Mas Gading candidate for Barisan Nasional (BN) to consider, very soon.

The Senior Minister made the announcement yesterday when told that there was anxiety on the ground in Bau over the matter following the sacking of incumbent MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe from the party.

“The party will announce the candidate very, very soon,” he said when met yesterday.

At two previous dinners in Bau near here, which Mawan graced and was invited to as special guest, he hinted that the Bau community was not short of credible and smart people to lead them. He had also said that the party would move around to assess six to seven potential candidates, stressing that first and foremost Mas Gading was a BN stronghold.

At the Bung Bratak Heritage Association anniversary dinner last month, it was said that several of the potential candidates were present and they were seated together with Mawan and the association’s chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

They were Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik who is also a permanent secretary to Tourism Ministry, Zecon general manager Rayan Narong and Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority deputy general manager Anthony Nogeh as well as prominent entrepreneur Henry Harry Jinep.

Following the dinners, several people called on PBB deputy information chief Minos to contest as a direct BN candidate instead. To this Minos said he was recuperating from an operation and that he would be glad if the eventual candidate came from SPDP.

SIBU: DAP will not go far despite putting more Dayak candidates for the coming general election as this is part of their multi-racial window dressing.

SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan said the opposition party’s move to pluck candidates from here and there to serve their purpose would not make inroads into the rural areas, a stronghold of Barisan Nasional.

“Well, this is a very clear case of them trying to go rural. But to me, putting up candidates is one thing; there must also be true multi-racial struggle, composition and leadership. The opposition should not just pick ‘bits’ and ‘pieces’ here and there to serve their purpose. It is understandable that they would put a few Dayak candidates in Dayak areas.

“But I would say these candidates are being used to penetrate (into rural areas). And I don’t think they (DAP) will go far as this is only a multi-racial dressing.

“I hope the people will realise their motive – it is just a matter of trying to use Dayak candidates to go into Dayak areas,” said Mawan, who is also the Minister of Social Development when asked if DAP would make any impact in rural areas this coming general election with half of their candidates coming from the Dayak community.

Last Friday, the Peninsula-based opposition party was reported by the media to be eyeing at least 12 out of the 31 Sarawak parliamentary seats during the polls.

Sarawak DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen reportedly said the party created a historic move by getting half of their candidates from the Dayak community.

Tight lipped about their potential Dayak candidates, Chong claimed that they wanted to expand the party beyond the urban areas.

To this, Mawan said: “If they are just putting them up like window dressing, they will not be able to create much impact.”

Meanwhile, asked about Dominic Daon and 60 others from Singai crossing over to DAP, as reported by an English daily Mawan said politics was very fluid at all levels.

“Political forces are orbiting around, seeking alliances, and wherever it fits them, they merge. Initially, they seemed to be with Nansian but after that…they left and merged with others.

“Whether it is a marriage of convenience or for political reasons that I wouldn’t know. But that being the nature of politics . . . it is always the art of possible,” he noted.

Asked if SPDP could win all their parliamentary seats this coming general election, he said they were confident about it and had since shifted into fifth gear.

He, however, stressed that the BN coalition, comprising 14 component parties needed to work closer, putting BN’s interest as supreme.

“If that is the case, we can all win and SPDP candidates can win – that is definite,” he added.

Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar

KUCHING: Barisan Nasional (BN) clubs, set up by sacked office bearers of SPDP, cannot promote their cause nor hold membership drive unless and until they (BN clubs) are registered.

Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who is a lawyer by training, said doing these would infringe laws related to societies.

However, there is nothing in the law to say that people, including former members of SPDP, cannot form associations or clubs, he said, when asked to share his views on this issue.

“If I remember my law correctly, they can only hold membership drive and promote their cause after the club is registered.”

The BN cubs are the work of five former SPDP members, whose moniker is ‘SPDP Five’, who were sacked recently for gross insubordination. Shown the door were Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe and assemblymen Datuk Peter Nansian Nguise (Tasik Biru), Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau).

Last month, they held a MoU signing event in Bau with several community leaders, apparently to garner support there.

Wan Junaidi, who is also Santubong MP, said: “Article 10 (1) (c) of the (Malaysian) Constitution provides the right for citizens of this country to an association and subject only to the provision of Article 10 (2) (c) that governs infringement of security, public order and morality.”

He said he believed politics could become ‘the art of the possible’ if stakeholders legitimised their efforts.

“There are many things in politics that could legitimise efforts (to form clubs), for instance, voices of the people. The law has a certain amount of certainty, but there are many aspects of what is right and proper in politics.”

Recently, political analyst Dr Jeniri Amir said the formation of BN clubs to accommodate disgruntled members of BN component parties would set a bad precedent for the ruling coalition.

If the BN clubs are allowed to spawn, its prominence would slowly erode the relevance of BN political parties and also the power-sharing concept which the BN had been pratising all this while, said Jeniri, who is also a local university lecturer.

Thus far, Nansian and Entrie have made the unprecedented move of forming BN clubs in their respective constituencies, and it is understood that they were contemplating getting it registered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Hardcore ground spokesman for SPDP, Stewart Aying, who is also SPDP Lambir chief, said recently that the sacked members were trying to hang on to BN for political survival, to secure the right to continue disbursing BN minor rural project (MRP) fund, and to maintain their assistant ministerial posts.

Aying said BN, at the moment, did not want to rock their own boat simply by announcing that these independent incumbents (in Mas Gading and Tasik Biru) were outside BN, explaining that if the BN announced that the sacked incumbents were outside BN, then the coalition would technically have lost several representatives to the opposition.

Tan Sri William Mawan, President of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) told reporters in Sibu yesterday, that the party will reveal the party’s candidate for Mas Gading parliamentary seat ahead of the GE13 polls.

The announcement of the candidate will give the candidate as well as the people in Mas Gading the chance to get-to-know their election candidate better.

In the past, party candidate are only known by the voters when Barisan Nasional announce their candidates, which happen just a few days before they goes to poll. They will be a lot of applause as well as  disappointment, especially when the candidate favoured by majority of the party supporters was not being nominated.

Learning from past mistake, SPDP is going to make a brave move by announcing their new candidate ahead of the official announcement by the Barisan Nasional. JAMESJG.COM is sure that this announcement will have the blessing of YAB Datuk Seri Najib and YAB Pehin Sri Taib.

With the assurance from YAB Pehin Sri Taib, that he is not interfering with the SPDP crisis, the naming of Mas Gading candidate shall be seen as the ultimate party choice.

Tan Sri William Mawan, “When the chips are down, that is, it is finished. People will go to that Barisan Nasional candidate and not otherwise. Mas Gading is generally the Barisan Nasional stronghold.

We are confident of winning all four parliamentary seats… when the chips are down the people will know how to choose.”

To all the Mas Gading hopefuls; to service the people, it is not only a matter of winning, but also a matter of understanding how the government system works, and which federal agency to look for to solve the rakyat’s problem.

JAMESJG.COM hopes the chosen candidate is on social media too!
