KUCHING: Konsep ‘Kumang’ kemaya diatu hari nyau nyadi ‘kebuah’ tauka batang randau ari tiap renggat kitai bansa Iban ke bela meri mayuh macham timbal ari serata menua Sarawak kelebih agi maya nyau deka semak enggau pengerami Hari Gawai laban maya pengerami hari besai baka nya mayuh macham pekit mantai ke pemajik ti bisi diatur, lalu ketebal agi nya pekit ‘Kumang Gawai’.

“Nyadi gamal kumang tu enda ulih disemaka kitai mensia laban badas agi kitai, iya ga badas agi,” ku iya. gEnda jauh nyema, baka kitai ke ngagai emperaja tauka jaku orang kemaya hari tu – ‘mengejar pelangi’. Kebuah pia laban iya udah nyadi siti ‘idealism’ dalam pengidup kitai Iban maya nya menya.

“Pengidup semua bansa di dunya tu bisi idealism kediri empu, ideal soceity sida iya. Ambika banding baka sida orang putih, ‘idealism’ sida iya ke hidup rambau Robin Hood kelia. Nya alai sida iya mayuh ‘fairy tale’ pasal jerita raja-raja sida iya. “Enti sema kitai baka bansa bukai mekit rambau hari gawai ambika chunto tau dipasuk semua bansa, ngarap ke sida (pengatur program muak ngagai atur Kumang Gawai) nukar nama nya nyangka baka chunto ngena nama Pekit Kumang Menyarung Gawai Dayak 2010. Lalu tu tau alai semua bansa tau masuk dia magang,” ku iya.

Ba Iban konsep pendiau Iban bisi utai ke dikumbai Kumang Menyarung, iya nya bansa gerama ke ulih diau ba dalam ai tauka ba tanah ke dikangau kitai gerama ‘Hermit’ tauka orang ribai ngangau nya ‘Hermit Crab” tauka dalam jaku Melayu ‘umang-umang’.

Bansa Iban ngumbai nya kumang menyarung laban nya ulih keluar ari ai lalu nyadi mensia lalu baka gamal kumang, gamal ke bajik tang iya ukai Iban. Nya alai iya dikumbai kitai kumang menyarung.

Nya alai, ku iya, nadai penanggul enti sema Pekit Kumang ba panggau bisi pupu bansa bukai baka pupu bansa Melayu, Cina enggau pupu bansa bukai ke ukai Dayak, masuk pekit Kumang.

“Tang enti sema orang ke masuk pekit nya siku ari apai indai sida bebansa Iban, iya nya baka ti ba undang-undang pengelama tu besetuju mega kitai tang anang nyau sida bansa bukai sigi nadai temu bunsu nya tadi enggau kitai bepekit berebut ke gelar kumang laban nya ukai tentu betul.

Enti iya pekit Kumang Menyarung Gawai Dayak, nya ke disetuju kitai.

“Laban kitai sigi bisi konsep nya. Orang bukai ke nyarungka gari tauka ngepan kitai lalu enggau kitai bepekit pemajik gamal diri,” ku iya.

Gelar Kumang tu semina kena kitai bansa Iban aja.

Taja pia ku Jimbun, anang mega kitai saru laban baka kaban kitai bansa Bidayuh sida iya bisi mega kumang enggau keling sida.

Iban enggau Bidayuh bisi gelar nya laban sida iya sigi bisi sejarah tauka jerita tuai Keling enggau Kumang.

Ba pupu bansa Orang Ulu, indu bajik sida iya digelar Keligit.

Konsep Kumang kebuah nya mayuh disebut tauka nyadi buah randau kemaya hari tu baka nyau laban kekadang bisi sekeda orang enda lantang hati bisi nalipaun nanya reti pekit kumang ke betul.

Nya alai ku Jimbun, bisi jalai chara kitai ngemetulka iya berindik ari timbal orang mayuh.

Lalu pia mega ba pengawa bepekit Kumang, orang indu ke enggau pekit Kumang enda tau ta sengapa ga masuk ke ngepan tauka bekena ke ngepan kitai Iban.

Kebuah pia laban ngepan kitai Iban sigi bisi tusun iya empu lalu enti bisi penyibil tauka senika ba ngepan nya, sigi enda patut mega diambi kitai nyadi pemenang nangkup gelar Kumang, laban ngepan Kumang sigi nadai penyibil.

Enda jauh nyema baka sugu tinggi, orang ke enggau bepekit Kumang, patut ngena sugu tinggi ke sigi iya nya tinggi ari sugu tinggi ke bukai, laban nya nanda ke iya nya indu dara ke ngembuan pemajik, baka Kumang.

Laban enti sugu tinggi nya ta baruh dia iya ukai ungkup indu dara tang indai orang.

Pia mega, chura ngepan, orang ke deka enggau bepekit Kumang, manah agi ngena ngepan chura mansau ke terang laban nya nanda ke iya ‘Kumang’ ke sigi indu ke tau diambi nyadi ke bini orang bujang berani baka sida Keling.

Tang kemaya hari tu, mayuh ngepan kelebih agi kain karap dikena orang betanding tang nyau chura kuning, sekedanya chura kalas (tauka pink) ke ngujung ke chura tu enda tentu tampak dipeda tang pucat.

Nya alai kebuah sekeda indu dipeda bajik tang enda menang gelar Kumang laban ngepan ke dikena sida bisi penyibil sereta enda ngakun dikena iya nangkup gelar nyadi ‘Kumang’.

Miss Nunda Krisping Meges won the Kumang Bidayuh title, followed by Michelle Genevie ak Sontek and third place goes to Melissa Alecia.

The Kumang Iban title goes to Jane ak Mudin from Ulu Teru, Tinjar, followed by Valentine Hellyiza ak Stephen and third place goes to Rachel ak Nanang from Sg. Poyut, Marudi.

The Keligit Orang Ulu title goes to Lydia Suling Laing, followed by Calister Solo Disa and third place goes to bio-tech student, Penelope Ering Laing from Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

New design an insult to the Iban community

jamesjg.com hopes that these few feedbacks will not represent the majority views and opinion of bilek owners throughout Sarawak. I do not know how this longhouse leaders define their ruai, but being born an Iban and who keeps our Iban customs and tradition intake, I am entitled to my own personal opinion based on my roots from the Kapuas Valley, to the tributaries of the Krian River, right up the Baram into Tinjar. We may come from different roots but this design and this concept, if fully implemented, will see the extinction of the Iban race, customs and practices, regardless the assurance of the Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak.

1. The proposed designs (four of them) are totally an insult to the Iban community. Where on earth do we have our ruai outside (considered to be outside) of the longhouse and is equivalent to a balcony or a car porch seen in most terrace homes. What has become a common meeting place, our dining area looks like a small cafeteria available at any Starbucks coffee outlet!

2. The concept do not put forward the fate of the existing bileks, whereby, some longhouse (like ours) are of age 72 years old. Does this mean that the Land and Survey Dept. will not be issuing our bilek a title?

3. How do the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development treat the individual homes that are not physically attached to the main longhouse but are within the administration of one tuai rumah (village chief). What will be the fate of my fellow Bidayuh homes who are not considered as a longhouse?

4. Why so much hu ha on issuing titles to the bilek? Kalau nak bagi, bagi la.. There is no need to imposed so much this and that to the owners of this bilek.

To the participants of this seminar series, your future generations are the ones who will pay their loans, risk losing their values because of the decision you made today.

Note: The writer did not attend the Seminar since the audience was pre-selected by the government, hence the writer treat the seminar as non-representation of the Iban community. There was no prior aum (longhouse meeting) to select who shall represent our longhouse at this seminar.

Points to note:

  • The villagers through their tuai rumah need to write-in formally to request the Land & Survey Dept. to do a land surveying work on their longhouse land that is to be applied for a title (individual title like our terrace houses in the urban areas). Our experience on this, EVEN the court has ordered the L&S Dept. to conduct a survey to verify our claim on NCR land within 30-days, the department never reach the ground and do it. How effective is our formal request in this matter?
  • The L&S Dept. do not have any program yet to conduct any survey for this NCR land.
  • What happen if the longhouse built is considered ‘Angat’ ? Meaning not a good longhouse to stay on, normally bc orang mati berturut2 ba rumah panjainya, then sida terpaksa pindah tau ke ngaga rumah baru nearby.
