Background of Gawai Burong

060406-burong.jpgGawai Burong, celebrated to honour the War God Sengalang Burong, is one of the greatest of all Iban festivals or ceremonies and was first celebrated by Sera Gunting himself on his return from this grandfather longhouse. The other festivals of bird rituals, by order of importance and expense, includes Gawai Mata, Enchaboh Arong, Gawai Kenyalang and Gawai Burong, the latter being celebrated in nine ascending stages known as:

1) Gawai Kalingkang
2) Gawai Sandong
3) Gawai Sawi
4) Gawai Salangking
5) Gawai Mulong Merangau or Lemba Bumbun
6) Gawai Gajah Meram
7) Gawai Meligai
8) Gawai Ranyai or Mudur Ruruh
9) Gawai Gerasi Papa

WaiFM Borneo Post

I didn’t know Laja was having a press conference on the website yesterday! It was a big headline for me and Vynne :D

Bringing the radio station to the Net is our big contribution for the love of Iban music and I hope my fellow Iban community would support the website with ideas and contributions that can be use to improve the content and programs.

With more interactivity in line, we hope to bring the Wai 10 Chart Show live on the Net and to encourage participation from all Malaysians via SMS voting. Although the Pesan SMS is being handled by DAPAT, it is certainly a hit among young listeners.

With the SMS voting for Wai 10, we hope to see a better competition among the Iban artists. And, with the coming finale in Sibu, we hope to bring to the audience a real time live sms voting just like the Malaysian Idol show over TV8 :D

Bravo RTM Sarawak!!! And, we are proud to be the sponsors of the only Iban radio station in the world ;)

Eastern Times

I tried to check if they have their website up and running…

Yupp,.. it is available at http://www.easterntimes.com.my and hmmm.. the team still gotta check their IT Department. Just a word of advice to the Editor – get a webmaster and a team will ya!

It has been a while since we see a good media website from Sarawak – Ouchh, Borneo Post,.. ya ya..

Malaysian Today – its tough to convince YB Larry Sng but at the end it was 3rd party again. Anyway, the package cost less than RM500,.. so maybe Eastern Times (ET) needs to look into this area.

The global media is looking at online publishing seriously and the readers are turning to the web for fast and uptodate news.

ET has a bigger challenge from the Toman era..

What say you, Davidson,  James Ritchie?
