Probably Tun Rahman is just testing the water, but to many Dayaks, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Alfred Jabu is indeed a candidate to be considered for the Chief Minister’s post. The Penans are grateful to him, by the various projects he has brought to their improved longhouses.
The Orang Ulu are very much close to him, considering the reception Jabu has been getting from them. The Ibans, as usual, are splitted by their different political views. Well, the views has been transformed into votes among them and Datuk Patinggi Jabu has been retained as their representative for several terms, despite the lack of oil palm scheme and plantation in his area (compared to the rest of Sarawak).
Within the State Cabinet members, Datuk Patinggi Jabu has been a catalyst to solve various issues among the Dayak leaders and within the State BN, too.
As for now, the chair should be given to Datuk Patinggi Jabu, unless, our Prime Minister have other more solid reasons not to agreed with Tun Rahman’s view. Not only it makes the majority of the Dayak ground leaders and voters happy, it will also endorsed their dream to see an Iban to be the Chief Minister of Sarawak. Why not?
